Morrissey's Pub is situated in the beautiful heritage town of Abbeyleix.
If you have a penchant for seeing how things used to be then this is the place for you.
From the moment you walk through the doors of this impressive pub you are transported back to a time when you could enjoy a pint of plain whilst grocery shopping! This pub was built in 1770 as a single storey building & then later extended to a two story premises.
In it's day it has been a public house, grocery, undertakers, bakery & shipping agent, now that's what you call multi-tasking!!It just goes to show the importance of Pubs in Ireland in years gone by & the variety of services they fulfilled in the local community.
The interior of this bar is well work & softly lit, a potbelly stove is centrally located around which a series of timber partitions are located creating lots of interesting nooks & crannies. The dark wooden bar counter is L-shaped & the focal point being the high back bar shelving laden with Irish produce & original shop /pub artefacts such as biscuit tins, sweet jars, copper measuring jugs, whiskey jars, scales & much more. There are so many interesting pieces of grocery memorabilia in this pub, every time I go there I notice something quirky & interesting or see some product from back in the day I had since forgotten about.
The staff in Morrissey's wear traditional white shop coats which also adds to the atmosphere, this pub is completely charming & unique, you will be mesmerised by the amount of artefacts to be seen & enjoyed in this historical haven. Be prepared to be immersed in Irish Pub/ Shop Style history.Another pub to add to your 'must visit' list of well loved Irish Pubs.
Love Irish Pubs!!!Love your Pub!!!♥
